Back when the US & UK mils were still racing each other from the top of the empire state building to the top of the postoffice tower (in London,UK) , my father was station master at St.Pancras railway station in London, near to the postoffice tower. For one such race, he closed rail traffic to the goods yard to let a Harrier land there.
ReplyDeleteWord got out. THOUSANDS of people lined the perimeter of the goods yard to see the Harrier land there. What they did NOT realise was that said goods yard was surfaced with the accumulated coal dust of 150+ years of railway operations.... ;-)
Dad and I watched from behind the safety of his office window :-)
