Mob City

I finished up watching the miniseries "Mob City" last night. I liked it, but as those who know me will attest, I'm kind of a sucker for that sort of hard-boiled forties noir stuff.

Of course, there were some variations from what happened back then. Bugsy Siegel did kill Harry Greenburg, but the killing was in 1939, there was a trial (not just a hearing) and Siegel got off after two witnesses suffered various fatal ailments (mostly sudden cases of bullet wounds).

Spoiler below the break

Siegel was indeed killed by a gunman wielding a M-1 carbine. He wasn't shot in the eye, but a bullet that hit next to his left eye caused that eye to pop out. The killing was likely mob-ordered and a shooter named Eddie Cannizzaro confessed on his deathbed. Another possibility was a veteran named Robert MacDonald, who took his own life in a murder-suicide three months later. The case is still officially open and unsolved.

Additionally, Siegel was shot to death at the house Virginia Hill (his mistress) was renting at 810 N. Linden Dr. in Beverly Hills. LAPD detectives wouldn't be showing up there.
