Stephenson's Rocket.


Apparently it could cope with some pretty rough track. Buster Keaton, who was a foamer, had this replica built 90 years ago.



It was in at least two movies and then disappeared.

  2. Since the Liverpool and Manchester Railway was initially laid with 15ft fishbelly rails (most likely cast iron), it wasn't a very smooth ride. They upgraded the line within 7 years as traffic increased and rail problems continued with the short fishbelly rails prone to breakage and misalignment.
