I shouldn't make too much fun of the pro-hockey lockout. I know some really true hockey fans who are in mouring over the sixth lockout/strike in the last five years-- at least it seems like that.
But I don't understand why those saps keep supporting those teams. Clearly, pro hockey doesn't give a rat's ass about their fan base.
Every time a pro sport goes on strike or is locked out, I drop it as a viewing fan. Nothing worse than millioaires crying the blues. No hockey or baseball for many years. Football and basketball bore the snot out of me. Racing cars is NOT a sport. Nor is fishing. Golf is about as exciting to watch as paint drying in the bathroom. Thank god for the Space Channel.

ReplyDeleteSo, that's why I hadn't noticed hockey this year. Believe it or not, I used to be a fan. But, living in the Seattle area (where there is no NHL team, after years of the NHL demanding extravagant sums of money of any prospective owner who wants to start one), plus watching this stuff go on year after year, has made me a whole lot less interested.
ReplyDeleteAccording to that link, the players association has proposed more revenue sharing among the teams to make things better for the teams in small markets. The owners, of course, will have none of it. "Millionaires crying the blues" is exactly right.
