I'll Have the "General Tsao's Deer", Extra Spicy, Please

Yum, yum!
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WKYT) - A Chinese restaurant forced to shut its doors after getting caught with a dead deer in the kitchen. ... The restaurant owner tells the health department that he wasn't going to serve the road kill to customers, but instead to his family.
Ayup, I'll believe that, you betcha.

In New England, really frugal people will pick up fresh roadkill and butcher it.* If I remember correctly, Caspar Weinburger's wife was known for picking up fresh roadkill. But she wasn't running a restaurant.

  1. Cats in the ladle of the China room...

Badly handled meat can make you sick. One can only hope even for their family they know how to butcher a kill.

However double cooked spicy deer might be very good.

    Eck!

  2. In my late teens and early twenties I ate a lot of venison.
Most all was killed by me, usually at night but ... I was not adverse to some roadkill, depended on what had happened. Too much adreanalin will spoil the flavor. It was a long time ago and in a far away place. I do miss the taste of venison tho.

Probably Not long till they apply this thought to the homeless as well.

  4. The deer meat was probably the healthiest thing in that kitchen full of factory farmed antibiotic-and-hormone-laced meat. Just sayin ;).

  5. Funny. Been a bunch of years ago but I remember when the only Asian joint in Brownwood Texas was shut down for this very thing. I'm kinda with Tux... the venison would probably have been my preference had I known about it.
