Airport Daze

It is unseasonably warm in my neck of the woods. It was into the fifties during the day, when it should be in the thirties. Blue skies and warm air brought a lot of airplanes out.

This is a Long-EZ, one of Burt Rutan's early designs. On 125hp, it will keep pace with some airplanes that have twice the horsepower.

This is a Navion. They are pretty roomy inside, compared to Mooneys. Consequently, they are nowhere near as fast. Navions were designed back in the days when most smaller airports weren't paved, so they have robust landing gear. The Air Force used Navions as liaison aircraft during the Korean War.

This is a trio of Rockwell Commanders. The Commander-112/1144 has been out of production since the early 1980s. At least two companies tried to bring it back, only falling short and into bankruptcy.

This is a Cessna T303 Crusader. Not very many were made. I don't believe that I've ever seen one before, for I first thought it was a Beech Queen Air (which are also rare, nowadays).

  1. Looks more like an Ostrich-EZ ;).
