Heh. Heh. Heh. (Riflery Edition)

Old School Guns has a tale of some mall-ninja at the range, shooting a tricked out M-1A and not able to hit the broad side of barn from the inside of the barn. Meanwhile, said blogger is punching paper with a standard-issue M-1 at 100 yards.

Sad to say, crap like that is not unusual. Too many people fall in love with the expensive hardware and add-ons, but they don't know how to do the basics.

  1. Yeah, sounds about right. I did lots of shooting and a little coaching in the Marines, and once you've seen what a random M-16 from the armory can do in the right hands all the extra doodads and add-ons seems like something between an affectation and a complete waste of time. With good technique and any decent rifle, iron sights can put rounds on target out to the limits of your eyesight. Your blogger buddy is right: all the money spent on the geegaws and goofy costume would have been better invested in ammo and classes.

  2. Met an older gentleman at a range in Spearfish, SD. He had just purchased an AR-like in 22LR for a grandson, and it had optics and he couldn't get it on target. So he allowed me to shoot it, I did inches, MOA and clicks and got the fine little firearm hitting a yellow golf ball all over the range. Lots of fun, hope his grandson appreciates the cost and learns how to shoot.
