The Next Generation

The relative of a friend. He's going off to college in the fall. Range time last month (along with cartridges and targets) was my graduation gift to him. He's shooting my Mosin-Nagant PU sniper rifle, which was his favorite of the day. On the bench are a M1903A1 Springfield and a Savage Mk II. Not pictured is a Krag carbine.

It was raining off and on that day, sometimes rather hard. One of his classmates is a serious gun enthusiast who was very impressed by his getting to shoot a Krag (I only gave him five rounds (they go for $38 a box).

A good day.

  2. If I start shooting it much, I'll have to.

  3. Some of my fondest memories are my Dad and I at the beach in a small gulley shooting .22's at clay plates set up on the sandy sides of the canyon.
This was in the early 60's and I was like 6 or 8 at the time.
That gave me a lifelong love of the smell of burnt gunpowder.
We'd buy a 'brick' of 500 and finish them in a weekend.
That was way before I learned to handload for my later bought centerfire rifles, pistols and revolvers.
500 centerfire rounds in a day provide not just a wonderfull smell but even a smudgeing effect.
    "arms are for hugging"
YES I hug my guns regularly.
    a life long gun nut
