On Torture

Frank W. James wrote one of the better pieces on the use of torture than I have read in a very long time. You should read it.

If you're interested in the life of a modern farmer, his blog should be on your must-read list. For the reasons you'll see in his blog, look for the price of food to go up.

  1. Torture is part of a systematic application of propaganda. It requires those sought to belive they will be forced to divulge information. It also required those of the governed to believe it it is for the "greater good" which is also systemizing propaganda. As such unacceptable.

  2. You're probably familiar with the political cartoons of Danziger. FWIW, IIRC from email exchange some years ago, he did POW interrogation in Vietnam, never used torture and was able to find out everything he wanted to know while treating them humanely in interrogation.
