Crisis in Dairyland - Scott Walker Prank Call | ||||

The call by the fake David Koch to Walker was amusing, but it also opened a window into the twisted sort of thinking that Walker, and presumably the conservative movement, is employing. Walker seems to think that one of the direct causes of the fall of the Soviet Union was because Ronald Reagan fired the air traffic controllers in 1981.
That's just insane.
But what Reagan did, though, was kick the destruction of the working and middle classes into high gear. What Reagan did was jumpstart the process of transferring most of the nation's wealth into the hands of the überrich.
Mother Jones has a series of graphs about this. As you can see in the following graph, the rich have made out like bandits since Reagan was elected. For the rest of Americans, the best that has happened since Reagan was elected is to tread water:
The problem is that this has not sunk in for most Americans. They do not realize how much of the nation's wealth has been transferred into the hands of the rich by the Republicans.
You may not be able to fool all of the people all of the time, as Abe Lincoln famous said, but the Republicans have shown that you can fool enough of the people most of the time.
What Reagan did was his trickle down economic.. Also then called Voodoo economics. We only got a trickle when we needed a fire hose!
