Borders apparently is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy next week.
Filing a Chapter 11 bankruptcy would mean that the chain intends to carry on, albeit in a smaller size. But Chapter 11 bankruptcies sometimes get converted into Chapter 7 and the whole shooting match is liquidated (Circuit City, Linens `N Things). If you have an unredeemed gift card at that point, you're just another unsecured creditor and you'll get bupkis.
If you have a Borders gift card, drag your ass to the store today or tomorrow.
