Major Dick Winters, R.I.P

He was the commander of Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Regiment, 101st Airborne Division.

"Band of Brothers," both the book mineseries was about his company. He later wrotehis own book on the war.

Maj. Winters was 92 when he died last week. He asked that news of his passing be withheld until after his funeral.

  1. I had the honor and pleasure of meeting several of the men who served under him. These old veterans came to Iraq to visit the troops in 2008.

    Sure could have used some leadership of MAJ Winter's caliber in Iraq.

  2. A REAL hero, a quiet man, who like the rest of many of my Dad's generation served the cause of peace by fighting real evil, their only hope on return was a quiet life..
    Dick Winters was one of the best, his service and his example of a life well led should be an example to us all...Sorry to see that he has passed away
