(Clerk hands gun to customer, who racks the slide and verifies that it is unloaded.)
Customer: "This is pretty neat."
Clerk: "And it's made in the USA!"
Customer: "How much you want for it?"
Clerk: "$600"
Customer: "No, it's not made in the USA."
Clerk: "Rock Island Armory--- this says they're in Pahrump, Nevada."
Customer: "Wherever the hell that is. The original Rock Island Armory was in Illinois. This thing is an import."
(Clerk reads through the literature in the box)
Clerk: "Hey, you're right! How'd you know that?"
Customer. "Dude. Nobody's going to make and sell a 1911 in this country for six bills. I'll bet that most of the parts are cast or injection-molded or something like that."
But I did get in some range time today, first in too long, with my 1911:

Sounds like the gun dealer got in some of the Armscor 1911's from the Philippines. Armscor has a good reputation for customer service and reasonable quality for an import 1911, so there's nothing wrong with the gun itself, but it's amazing that the idiot clerk thought it was American-made.
