How a Police State Works

Try to do something about corruption and favoritism and you yourself get arrested.

That may sound like Alabama, but it's Russia. The KGB FSB ran roughshod over the locals in order to build a fancy resort for its spies and goons. When the mayor filed a lawsuit to stop them, the FSB arrested her and threw her into pre-trial detention for over two years.

  1. Sounds like Texas. Expose corruption in the local police forces, go to jail. Sort of like those folks up in Boston who were arrested for making cell-phone-camera recordings of police beatings and posting them onto YouTube.

Hold it, we're having penis-measuring contests over whether the U.S.A. or Russia is more of a police state? Whoa, that's a contest in which there *are* no winners... well, other than jackbooted thugs, but we already knew about that.
