Happy Bastille Day!

Allons enfants de la Patrie
Le jour de gloire est arrivé !
Contre nous de la tyrannie
L'étendard sanglant est levé
Entendez-vous dans nos campagnes
Mugir ces féroces soldats?
Ils viennent jusque dans vos bras.
Égorger vos fils, vos compagnes!

Aux armes citoyens
Formez vos bataillons
Marchons, marchons
Qu'un sang impur
Abreuve nos sillons

  1. This makes me reminisce about the aftermath of Bastille Day and what happens to people whose attitude is "let them eat cake". Or, in the case of the Catfood Commission, "let them (the elderly) eat catfoot". Viva la revolucion!

  2. Ummm...that painting is about events forty years after the French Revolution.

  3. Deadstick, the French have adopted Marianne as a national symbol. If I had posted a photo of a bald eagle on the Fourth, would it make sense for someone to point out that no such eagle signed the Declaration?
