The de facto leader of the GOP isn't backing down from the "shakedown" point of view, which is also widely held by Republicans.

The Republican party's view of "hooray for corporations and fuck you" is on full-throated display and shame on the Democrats if they can't make political hay of the point that if the Republicans were in charge, the taxpayers would be largely footing the costs of BP's oil spill.
