I almost put my hand through the car radio this morning, when the guest host of Saturday Weekend Edition mentioned that the Democrats were in danger of losing their "slim majority" in the Senate?
"Slim?" There are 40 Republicans in the Senate. There are 58 Democrats and two independents who caucus with the Democrats (one of whom would stab his own blood in the back if he saw any advantage from doing so).
What is "slim" is the Democrat's supermajority, which is what is needed these day in order to pass any legislation due to the GOP's tactics of total obstruction. But hey, I guess that little distinction escapes the notice of NPR which, for reasons unknown to me, has been banging a hard turn to the right.

I suppose the correct phrase would have been "slim supermajority".
ReplyDeleteThat would have been good. Of course, then they might have to explain why it takes a supermajority of senators in order to pass any legislation. But if they were to do that, some of their commentators, who make a lot of money over at Fox, might take a hike.
ReplyDeleteMost folks slept through Government class in High School, and for the most part, the others forgot most of what was taught right after the test. Plus, it's easier to gloss over the (boring) details (you know, the devil type) with a slogan or comment, than teach the audience. An educated population is dangerous to the status quo.
