A transgender teenager says a McDonald's restaurant in Florida discriminated against her when managers refused to interview her for a job, according to a complaint filed Monday. ... One of the managers also left her a voice mail saying: "We do not hire faggots."Almost every place that there is a McDonald's, there is a Wendy's or Burger King just up the street. Probably no small number of people will say "nah" when it comes to MuckyD's.
I'm not calling for a boycott. But to my mind, if they don't want to hire "faggots", then maybe they'll also feel more comfortable if they aren't taking money from faggots.
No loss here - I haven't been in a MickeyDee's for years. I even gave up the fries, those delicious fries.
ReplyDeleteThe gender variant scare the stupid and insecure. Which is a very very lame excuse. I hope McD pays dearly.
How can McD's survive when they hire people dumb enough to record incriminating statements? It is vile enough to say something like that one on one, but to record it takes a high level of stupidity as well.
ReplyDeleteWendy's is much better anyway so I would support a boycott.
One thing to remember is that most McDonald's restaurants are owned by independent franchisees, not by McDonald's Corporation. There's no indication that McDonald's Corporation itself has any policy about hiring transgendered or gay employees other than the stated one ("we do not discriminate"). The regional office that made this statement is responsible for supervising the local franchisees to verify they meet McDonald's Corporation standards, but that doesn't mean they own that particular restaurant.
ReplyDeleteThat said, if McDonald's doesn't yank this restaurant's franchise or at the very least tell them "hire that poor boy... err... girl... and fire all your managers who had any part of this nonsense or your franchise is *gone*" they have a lot of explaining to do. Corporate probably wasn't involved in the discrimination, but they certainly have a responsibility to ensure that their own corporate policies are followed by franchisees, and take appropriate action when that doesn't happen.
