Senior Goldman people have loaded up on firearms and are now equipped to defend themselves if there is a populist uprising against the bank. The article is loaded with errors, but those are sort of gunnie technical. One, though, is that CCW permits are "hard to get". If you're a regular schmo living in NYC, good luck with getting a carry permit, but they've always been readily available to the rich and well-connected.
It's going to be fun, though, when the folks at Goldman find out that pistols are noisy to shoot, will make their hands dirty and they have to be cleaned! As Amy Poehler noted, those birds won't even touch the handles of their car doors. I suspect that most of those pasty-faced bankers have never before held a handgun in their lives and now they are going to get competent with them to the point of being able to shoot them at someone? The safest place to be when one of those guys starts firing may be to stand right in front of the the intended target!
But where, though, have we seen this before? Oh, yes, it's coming to me: There were stories from the Great Depression about rich people buying machine guns to protect their mansions.
The folks at Goldman are fools and little shows it as well as this news story. From "doing God's work" to now arming themselves and letting the news leak out that they are really afraid of being held to account for their crimes all go to show an institution that is seriously out of touch.
There are plenty of people that are 1) pissed that they have lost everything AND 2) crazy about the whole "vigilante justice" type stuff AND 3) in this particular case... They know exactly who robbed them.
ReplyDeleteI will not be shocked in the least bit when someone gets shot over this. And if a banker kills someone first? May as well paint the bullseye on their own forehead at that point and wait for the push back because you know it will be coming.
For too many years, the Goldman Sachs gang has been spared, by government bailouts, the unpleasantness of knowing what it feels like when one shoots oneself in the foot. Soon, these cretins will learn that being well armed is not the same thing as being well equipped to defend oneself.
ReplyDeleteHow senior can they be if they can't afford their own Personal Protection Unit from Xe to patrol the fenceline up on Round Hill and drive the armored SUV?
ReplyDeleteWhat Montag said ;). Where's their security guards? Actually, I think they probably *are* paying security guards, the pistol is just in case their security guard decides that getting paid by a sonofabitch isn't worth putting his own life on the life to defend the soneofabitch, i.e., to shoot his own security in the back if they dare back away from a gunfight with someone who wants to kill him. Sort of like the banker equivalent of the Soviet SMERSH units. Which doesn't surprise me, given how much these bastards admire Joe Stalin's methods of social control...

Almost any decent scope sighted rifle can reach out and touch those putzim at 500 meters, so if it comes to that, they might as well use those $5,000 Wilson .45s that they will all buy to blow their own brains out.
ReplyDeleteYou're assuming these turkeys ever go outdoors, EBF. They don't. They go from their penthouse suites on Wall Street straight down via non-stop elevator to their armored cars in their private garage, they drive straight into the private garage of their townhouse when in the city, and when they get home to the Hamptons or wherever the fuck they've set up they have a defensive perimeter that would make the U.S. Army envious. You aren't going to get within 500 yards of them there. None of this would stop a determined assault by a hoard of irate villagers wielding pitchforks, where their security guards might decide that standing aside is the better part of valor rather than engaging in a mass murder of ordinary people, but it's all good enough to stop the lone loonie with the scoped rifle.
ReplyDeleteIt's the former scenario (the villagers with pitchforks and torches) that terrifies their ass, not the lone loonie scenario. And they *should* be terrified, given what they've done...

ReplyDeleteYeah, because they actually stand some chance of hitting those.
Seriously, how much do you want to be these guys subscribe to the 'fiendishly expensive pistol as magical talisman against all harm' school of marksmanship?
WV: somall That has got to be significant. Somehow.

ReplyDeleteI want them all to subscribe to it, if they are stupid enough to think that a $5K 1911 will do anything for them that a $500 1911 won't. Let them buy their expensive sidearms, if they wish. I presume they will all also go out and spend $5,000 for top-of-the-line body armor.
They'll all drop when they are shot in the head with a 9mm fired from the modern equivalent of a ten-rupee jezail.
