The Truth About City-Wide Surveillance Cameras

They are not effective. In London, probably the most monitored city on the planet, the cameras solve one crime per thousand cameras per year.

CCTV cameras are nothing more than a sop to a gullible public and to politicians who feel the need to show that "something is being done, by the Jeez."

  1. Anybody out to commit a crime either a) disables the CCTV camera in the area beforehand, or b) just goes where the cameras aren't in order to do the crime. And disabling these things is no big deal, a can of spray paint will do it and there's anarchist "jammers" who do it as a matter of principle so you can't even be sure it was the person who disabled the camera who did the crime...
