I received a lengthy e-mail screed about how the bailouts of Chrysler and GM are against the rule of law because they tromp all over the sanctity of contracts.
First off, conservatives have no problem with using bankruptcy law to abrogate union contracts. In point of fact, they cheer those on. But, boy oh boy, let there be any modification of the deals with the big-ass financial guys and their sock-puppets on the Right can be counted on to bleat like sheep being sheared with dull clippers.
Second, how come the conservatives' concern for the rule of law doesn't extend to matters such as warrantless searches, warrantless wiretaps, detentions without charges or trial or the use of torture?
Funny how those guys only stand up when it is rich financial clowns who are doing the complaining.

COMMENT MODERATION IS IN EFFECT UFN. This means that if you are an insulting dick, nobody will ever see it.
To be technical, the contract clause applies to the states. Art I sec 10. That, of course, wouldn't stop those "constitution is sacred" assholes like Scalia and Thomas (oh let's throw in Roberts and Alito too) from using it. It didn't work in Blaisdell.
