I Still Don't Understand This

Why is someone who carries a gun as part of his or her job called an "operator", especially in the special forces?

"Operators" run stamping presses and paper mills. Guns are not telephone switchboards or forklifts. Can't they come up with a better term for special operations and SWAT team folks than "operators"?

Next time someone uses the term "operator", ask them how much is a person-to-person telephone call to Duluth.

  1. Could I ask them how much is a person-to-person call to North Pole, Alaska? I don't know anyone in Duluth.
