The "Response to Torture" Strategy

So now it becomes apparent what the strategy of the Obama Administration is: Let the momentum build for an investigation to the point that they can credibly say: "We had no choice but to launch a criminal investigation."

  1. If that is the case, let's all pile on. The more, the merrier.

  2. This is as I suspected. The administration is bound by international treaty to prosecute suspected torturers, so in the end there would have been little choice. In the NYT article to which you link there is a hopeful few words. "The lawyers are another story." With luck that means that there will be little further delay in opening cases against Bybee, Yoo and Bradbury. With a bit more luck, one of those weasels will spill the beans on the VP's office. The investigators just need to follow the stink.

  3. Yes, because otherwise the chant from the right would be "he's being vengeful!, and not taking care of PROPER presidential business."
