Bush Just Sold Taiwan to Beijing

Read this story in the Xinhau News Agency. The short description is that Bush called President Hu and begged him for Chinese participation in the bailout of Wall Street. The Chinese were not going to give their money away for nothing:
"[President Hu] said China is ready to work with the U.S. side to intensify dialogue, exchanges and cooperation, and properly handle issues concerning mutual interests and of major concern, particularly the Taiwan question, in a bid to push forward the sustained and steady development of the Sino-U.S. constructive and cooperative ties."
Translation: Bush agreed that the US will not interfere with how China resolves the Taiwan issue. The Chinese will probably be polite to Bush and wait until next year, so the Republicans can blame the Democrats for not stopping the Chinese invasion of Taiwan.

  1. For years many in the field of IR have thought that the moment mainland China goes into Taiwan, and we do nothing to stop it, that China would have caught the U.S. in terms of power. Looks like that will happen soon.
