BUFF Down off Guam

A B-52 has crashed off Guam. Two people were recovered, which means that at least three are missing.

  1. A description of the B-52 ejection seat scheme. Though the gunner position was eliminated when the rear guns were eliminated, the seat is still there and is used as a passenger seat on occasion.

If only two got fished out, that seems to indicate that something happened where the plane tilted upside down and only the navigator and bombardier managed to eject safely. A B-52 isn't an F-16 and doesn't react well to doing acrobatics (as that moron "Bud" Holland who crashed one at Fairchild AFB a few years back found out the hard way).

We'll see what happened though when the survivors get debriefed. If they know. These things often happen so bleepin' fast....
