They are the same in that "American soldiers are fighting in a foreign nation."
There are some differences:
- World War II was based on a massive mobilization of American industry.
- There was a draft that sucked up every eligible man.
- The US had over 10% of its population in uniform.
- Conservation of resources was the rule; there was mandatory rationing of some commodities and consumer products.
- Many other consumer products were simply unavailable for the duration.
- War bond drives were held to raise money.
- Very high taxes were imposed on high earners (over 90%).
- All of the president's children were in the war.
