The Popemobile

What the hell are the jobs of those two guys who are sitting facing backwards in the popemobile?

And if the purpose of the vehicle is to keep the Pope from being shot, why did they roll the window down?

  1. One of the guys facing aft appears to be a cardinal, so I'd guess he's the personal assistant. The other guy might be US Secret Service or a Swiss gunsel.

The open window? Dunno, maybe they're passing through a sterile environment.

  2. So what is the gunsel supposed to do from inside a closed vehicle: Shoot the Pope if he's wounded?

  3. The Cardinal is probably his camerlengo, or chamberlain -- glorified secretary/personal assistant. The dude in the suit is probably with Dept. of State --- sort of a super-tour guide, making sure his visit is going well, etc.

He might be traveling armed. but I doubt it. -- there's probably enough security, all armed to the upper teeth, in that crowd.

    Window open...??? Someone's 'tarded, possibly.
