One of the guys facing aft appears to be a cardinal, so I'd guess he's the personal assistant. The other guy might be US Secret Service or a Swiss gunsel.

So what is the gunsel supposed to do from inside a closed vehicle: Shoot the Pope if he's wounded?
ReplyDeleteThe Cardinal is probably his camerlengo, or chamberlain -- glorified secretary/personal assistant. The dude in the suit is probably with Dept. of State --- sort of a super-tour guide, making sure his visit is going well, etc.
