The Destruction of the Democratic Party in 2008

The nomination of John McCain may make it possible for both the Democratic Party to self-destruct and to send the theologically rigid conservatives back to the caves where they belong.

Here is how: John McCain is the first Republican to gain the nomination without having to rely on the racist "Southern strategy" of Richard Nixon. He may indeed be elected without the support of the batshit conservatives, showing that they are not so important after all. After all, he really didn't need the American Taliban to nail down the nomination. He may not need them to win.

The second prong of this is that the cards may be in play for Hillary Clinton to wheel and deal with the insiders to get the nomination. That is going to do no end to piss off the younger voters and the Black voters, who will see that as nothing more than the sort of stone-cold treachery that people have come to expect from a Clinton. McCain is poised to move to the center and he can snap up those people. Couple the sense of betrayal by those Democrats with the Republicans who, while they may hate John McCain, they rabidly despise Hillary Clinton, and McCain could lay down a serious ass-whupping in a year when the Republican nominee should be beaten as badly as a trailer-park common-law wife in Cops.

If McCain can convert the support for him to support for the GOP by truly governing as a centrist, he could split off the young and the Blacks from the Democratic party. After all, until Richard Nixon appeared on the scene, the Black vote was a GOP vote. If McCain can pull it off, he can bring the GOP back to being the "party of Lincoln" and to majority status. The American Taliban conservatives would be forced to form their own Bugfuck Insane party, the Democrats would become a minority party.

The ghost of Nelson Rockefeller will be laughing while the whirring sound you hear will be the bodies of Nixon and Reagan spinning in their graves.

  1. It absolutely amazes me that instead of talking about the, speaking of bat shit dumb, the bat shit candidate who will be totally happy if the United States is in Iraq for the next one hundred years, we are talking about a CENTRIST CANDIDATE. John McCain is NOT a centrist candidate. End of story. He is "pro-life." Ya do understand the translation of that, right? It means that he wants to "protect the unborn at the expense of the already born, walking around and suffering. ANd he wants to fight, fight, fight. If the Democrats cannot defeat that candidate, they are dead as a party and we might as well all go find home somewhere else.

  2. "Centrist" is a relative measure. Compared to Bush and Huckabee and Romney, McCain is a centrist.

But then, so would anybody other than maybe Hitler or Stalin.

McCain may not take his party to the center. But he could.

  3. My choice for president, John Edwards, is out of the race. But I've been a yellow dog Democrat all my life and don't plan on changing.
I'm not a big fan of Hillery but Obama is even less progressive. Once again I will be forced to cast a vote against a republican neo-con corporate ass sucker rather than for a good Democrat. I'd move to Canada but I'm too old to stand the cold.
