The Italian Coup

was planned for 1976, if the Italian Communists won an election. No shock there that Kissinger left his fingerprints on the matter.

This story hasn't received any play in the US, according to Google News. But this one is not good news for the US, for it will play into the increasing perception around the world that the US only supports democracy when it is happy with the outcome.

Sort of like the Republican Party, which does not believe in free elections.

  1. Pinochet who?

That one doesn't get any play in the United States either. The U.S. media is too scared of being called "unpatriotic" if they report facts that are not flattering to the nation's leadership.

Thus Pravda on the Hudson and Izvestia on the Potomac. The only difference is that nobody ever believed the stuff printed in Pravda and Izvestia...

  2. The one nice thing about the Internets is that it makes a lot of foreign news sources available to those who give a damn. Before the WWW, no way in hell would I be reading anything out of the Times of London.
