We have effectively surrendered the ability to protest the mistreatment of our soldiers in the event they are captured. Because moral cowards, such as Air Force Brig. Gen. Thomas W. Hartmann, are unwilling to condemn torture as torture, whenever any adversary captures any American soldiers, they can mistreat the living shit out of those soldiers and just explain it away as "harsh questioning" or "enhanced interrogation."
George Bush's Administration of War Criminals has said, in essence: "We do not torture, but only we have the right to define what is torture and what is not not torture, so if we say it is not torture, it isn't torture." So if an enemy captures an American soldier, they can invoke the same mantra and then proceed to do whatever the fuck they want to that poor soldier.
Talk about "situational ethics!"
