Kansas Leads the Way

Kansas has denied a permit for a new coal-fired generating plant because of concerns regarding greenhouse gas emissions.

Roderick L. Bremby, secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, said yesterday that "it would be irresponsible to ignore emerging information about the contribution of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases to climate change and the potential harm to our environment and health if we do nothing."

What is also interesting is that although Melvin Neufeld, the Speaker of the KS House, a Republican, presented a letter signed by a bunch of Republican House members, 40% of the Republicans in the Kansas House refused to sign it. Even Republicans are beginning to see the light (or feel the heat).

Kansas leads the way.
