The pilots are getting tired of being treated like terrorists. At least one Norwegian pilot said "enough" and quit flying. He may be the canary in the mine.
The insanity is obvious. If a pilot was going to carry out a terrorist attack with his airplane, he would not need a weapon to do so.

Indeed. This is as ridiculous as Emperor Honorious giving in to paranoia about a conspiracy on the part of General Stilicho and ordering Stilicho killed. In actuality no conspiracy was necessary if Stilicho had desired to be emperor, only the order "Forward, MARCH!" issued to the last remaining Roman army, which was under his command. The end result was of course the Visigoth sack of Rome, swiftly followed by many other disasters.
