Karl Rove and Iraq

I suspect that the current strategy for Iraq has nothing to do with Iraq, per se.

What it has to do with is the Republicans figuring out a way to blame the Democrats for the inevitable catatrophe. The scenario I see playing out is this:

Bush keeps the war going until he leaves office. A Democrat takes over and does the dirty work of ending the war. The Iraqis then get really going with their sectarian war, with Iran assisting the Shiites and the Saudis arming the Sunnis. Lots and lots of slaughter, etc.

The Republican blame the Democrats, conveniently overlooking the fact that it was the Republicans who kicked the lid off this particular snake pit.

And between the GOP's loyal propagandists at Fixed Noise and the tens of millions of morons who still think that Bush is doing a good job, the message that "Iraq was going fine until Bush left office" will begin to take hold.

Yes, the myth of the "noble cause", played out for the 21st Century and swallowed whole by the ignorant. And the Republicans (and Joe Lieberman) will pretend it wasn't their fault.

Which, of course, it was.
