Cowardice on the Campaign Trail; Democratic Edition
I think the Democrats passed on a golden opportunity to get their views out to a skeptical audience. And if the crowd had been openly hostile, it could have been a PR plus, showing that Democrats are not afraid of those who oppose them.
Beyond that, as a Democrat who holds the opinion that the Second Amendment is as vital as the First in preserving our democracy, I'd have liked for them to confront this issue head-on.
And they didn't. Shame on them.

COMMENT MODERATION IS IN EFFECT UFN. This means that if you are an insulting dick, nobody will ever see it.
Let's face it, nobody at the NRA convention is going to vote for them, so why waste their time? The Republicans could run a blue dog -- or Rudy Julie Annie -- and the NRA crowd would vote Republican. I just don't see the point.
ReplyDeleteThey should have done it for the same reason that the Repulsivans should have shown up at the Univision and Tavis Smiley's debates.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the NRA membership is as rabidly Republican as the leadership would want. Neither is, for that matter, the membership of AOPA.
Most NRA that I know don't do what the NRA says, they vote the way they feel. Contrary to popular myth, they are not all rabid republicans. Most I know are libertarian, and only vote Republican when they can't find a decent Democrat for which to vote.

ReplyDeleteAfter all, look at me. :)
