This article in the Washington Post, by a former marine captain, is a fairly good summary as to why we are losing two wars simultaneously. Basically, if you want to put down an insurrection, you do not drive around, pointing guns at everything you see and shooting up anything that moves.
"..heavy-handed military tactics can alienate the people we're trying to help while playing into the hands of the people we're trying to defeat."
The saddest thing is that this even needed to be said.
