People, Especially Conservatives, Are Dumb as Rocks

It was known in 1965 that carbon dioxide was warming the globe. That was back when some subtle tweaks to things could have avoided the mess we are falling into.

We're probably now at the point of no return. Glaciers and ice caps are melting and disappearing as the atmosphere warms up. It's possible that most of the coastal cities will be underwater within the lifetimes of kids alive today.

Nobody can say that we didn't see it coming. Our generations, and the couple before us, will be reviled for centuries. They won't care about antibiotics or robotics or cyber-shit or space exploration or any of that shit. No, they will remember us as the clueless imbeciles who had all the information that we needed to avert the catastrophe and we, instead, buried our heads in the sand.

The only slightly positive thing about it could be that destroying the environment will be the final nail in the coffin of conservatism.

  1. Stop me if you heard this one before:
In 1973, an MIT computer predicted when civilization will end

Some peeps think it's 2035 now and I can't argue against it exponentials being what they are.

  2. 1965 in many cities you could not see the C02 in the smog... Growing
up on LI 40+ miles from NYC on a clear (if you can call it that) day
you could see the brown bubble over NYC.

  3. Ulaanbaatar still have coal plants in the city

Government medical reports in the weeks following the event estimated that up to 4,000 people had died as a direct result of the smog[1] and 100,000 more were made ill by the smog's effects on the human respiratory tract. More recent research suggests that the total number of fatalities was considerably greater, with estimates of between 10,000 and 12,000 deaths.[1][2]

  5. The role of CO2 (and methane) was understood long before 1965, though that's an important notification to the US government. Little or nothing was done. We are so frelled. 6. What are you, a socialist/communist? The only thing that works is the profit motive, anything else is pinko bed-wetting liberalism. Why it gave us 50 years of profitable tobacco cancer freedom, a medical system that's the effing wonder of the world, Luigi be damned, a marginal education system that preserves higher ed for the elite, a fossil fuel industry that dug the grave of human life on the planer and the amoral, feral, rapacious and bestial apotheosis of the profit motive, Donald Jackass Trump. What could be finer?
