No rational person would have hired Kegstand Pete to do anything other than what he did: Hold down an unwatched TV show on the Murdock Fascism Channel. Nobody would have hired Brainworm Bobby for, well, any job if it wasn't for his name. He's not qualified to be a road-flagger on a tree-removal project.
It's a fairly safe bet that nobody who the FLOSS hires is competent to do their job. The only thing he wants around him are white guys (or blonde women) who sing his praises.
But in general, "merit hire" means "all women and men of color need not apply".

Some of his first cabinet were competent, if right wing, government types - Jim Mattis was a Marine 4 star who read widely and was well respected. Therefore he lasted about two years (by then, rumpT was referring to Mattis as a Democrat, possibly because he was independent and had a brain). Before the end of term 1 the experienced hires had been weeded out in favor of yes-men and ideologues/morons/porque no los dos.
DeleteTerm 2, am in full agreement. It took a while, but rumpT (and the rest of us) found out that there really are no guard rails against fascism if one party wholeheartedly supports it - and mind you, this is not a historical oddity. Nazi Germany was freakin' FULL of incompetents in high command. Luckily.
