No Balls at All
It's just cowardice. As Stephen Colbert pointed out, the job of the editorial/opinion department is to have opinions. Until Murdoch trashed the WSJ, they were famous for having a wall between the news operation and the editorialists.
Bezos's craven groveling to Trump has cost his paper over a quarter-million digital subscribers, who had paid from $29/yr to $100/yr. So, maybe ten million bucks, give or take. But that's an amount that he can find under his couch cushions, unless Vance is using it.
