One Hundred and Fifty-Nine Years Ago

The last flag of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia was flown.

The war, fought by poor white conscripted farmers on behalf of rich (and draft-exempt) slaveowners was over. The North gained railroad lines and factories from wartime needs. The South didn't recover economically until the invention of air-conditioning. Soon after the end of the war, Southern apologists invented lies about what the war was fought over. And they continue to lie to this day, denying the plain fact that their "noble cause" was, from beginning to end, about the preservation and promotion of slavery.

And this, from 24 years ago, which has stood the test of time.
