The Secret Service's Missing Texts

The Department of Homeland Security’s internal watchdog has opened a criminal investigation into the destruction of Secret Service phone text messages related to the days around the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, two sources familiar with the matter told NBC News.

They didn't think to preserve text messages sent on official phones sent during the time of an attempted coup? That is so mind-boggling stupid that, if true, one has to wonder why they are entrusted with firearms.

So then the assumption is going to be that they deleted evidence of malfeasance, if not a plot to remove Mike Pence from the Capitol in a far-fetched attempt to further Trump's coup. It's not evidence that there are fascists and traitors in the Secret Service, but it sure as fuck is an indication that they are there.

Meanwhile, the batshit-Right, which has spend yearls frothing at the mouth about Hillary Clinton's emails, are muttering that there is nothing to see here.

  1. [chuckles a bit like Jabba the Hutt] I spent too many years in the business to say anything more than there is no such thing as no backups. They're out there, somewhere.

Point of pride: though I was not nor have I ever been a Clinton supporter, having selected them as the lesser of evils, I did defend her throughout all that e-mail bullshit.

I wouldn't give Pence too much, like Liz he's been running on this since it happened, and just getting his legs under himself. He could have been wrong about his SS detail, they may well have been genuinely concerned for his safety. Word is they were theirs.

  2. There was reporting that the agents were advised to archive their phones on hard drives, but 90+% failed to do so. Awaiting consequences, if true.

  3. Trump was using their phones, and they were involved in the coup. Better to be busted for destroying evidence than for seditious conspiracy.

  4. One important detail,

Messages be they text or email exist in not less than three places.
    The sender,
    The recipient (or multiple recipients)
    and all the intervening servers.

So if any one of them didn't delete, or kept a backup
then likely the whole mess is there.

Its the old, the only way for two people to keep a
secret is if one of them is dead. Also hope like
hell no one wrote it down.

  5. So you thought the Emails from Hillary's servers being destroyed were ok.
    But not these.
    There's that double standard again.

Yeah, I know, your defense is "Whataboutism". It happened yesterday and doesn't benefit the Liberal side, so it doesn't matter, did I get that right?

I actually think that if they can find out who ordered the deletion then he/she/him/her/it (whatever pronoun) should be fired and jailed for destroying government communications...but I thought that about Hillary and Huma too.

  6. Maybe you can tell me when, exactly, Hillary Clinton attempted to conduct a coup and overturn the results of a proven fair election.

  7. "Twasn't the point.
    But you know that.
Nice deflection. Did you learn how to do that in Lawyer skool?

  9. B,

Did our host say anything about Hillary? NO, so your off topic.

then you did your usual whatabout.

Then you were asked Did Hillary attempt to conduct a coup and overturn
the results of a proven fair election?

Again you can't even answer a yes or no question.
Hour honor I move the witness is evasive.

As to it was not the point you are off topic and no one
WRT Hillary gives a shit about that for this discussion.
    'Cept you.

But if we are going to play...
Why did Drumpf and minions destroy paperwork?
Why did Drumpf use other people phones?
Why are the Drumpf phone logs missing?
Why did Drumpf attempt to hide papers in mar-largo.
there are a lot of why did Drumpf Hide/obscure/destroy/ and evade...?

Don't bother answering as I expect deflection, strawman,
no true scotsman, appeal to authority, appeal to emotion,
ambiguity, anecdotal, false cause, gamblers fallacy, Tu quoque,
personal incredulity, circular ad hoc, non sequitur, and a
    general failure of critical thinking.

We learn a lot about the radical right from you.
Mostly they have no answers other than the propaganda
stream or those made up along the way to match their
so called facts. You are all about the feels and
wacked out opinion you personally cannot backup
without help from the obscene Faux Noise trio.

Proving one cannot argue with an unreasonable person.

The real question is why did the Secret Service feel
the need to delete or other wise obscure anything?

There is no answer. Only crickets.

  10. HOST:(Noel King)

The Trump administration is investigating the emails of current and former senior State Department officials. Now, these are people who sent messages to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's private email back when she was secretary of state. The Washington Post broke this story, and Greg Jaffe is one of the reporters. He's with us on Skype. Good morning, Greg.

    GREG JAFFE: Good morning.

KING: OK, so tell us exactly who is being investigated. How widespread is this?

JAFFE: So it's very widespread. It's about 130 to 140 people, and it ranges through many of the most senior people in the State Department - assistant secretaries, senior ambassadors - who either sent emails to Hillary's private email or sent emails that then made their way there through other folks.

KING: And what exactly are they being investigated for? When an investigator gets in touch with them and says, hey, we need to talk to you, what are they saying?

JAFFE: So they're basically saying, we found information on Hillary Clinton's private email that we determined to be of a classified nature. In virtually all of the cases, the information's retroactively classified, which means the person thought that they were passing along something that was unclassified, and the investigators looking on the computer determined, no, this actually should have been classified; now you have to account for it 3 1/2 years later. Actually, in some cases, these emails are a decade old.
