Your Sunday Morning Prop Noise

Well, sort of. But there isn't much footage of the XB-19 around.

  1. Cool old plane although, like the B-17, its prewar proposed use as maritime ship killer proved a complete bust in WWII, hitting moving vessels from 24,000 ft proving impossibly difficult. Looks like a C-47 wing on steroids. Love the mid-Atlantic accent of one of the announcers, the standard half British tones beloved of that day and also Madonna still. Looks like if you lost power on takeoff you'd crash into oil derricks at Santa Monica back then. This made me check the lyrics of the propaganda song Rosie the Rivitor. I always thought it referenced the B-19 bomber. But per the innertoobz it reads 'P-19'. Huh? We never produced a P-19 'pursuit' plane. Disinformation?

  2. Quite the airplane; that first landing looked pretty exciting! I remember a Bugs Bunny cartoon where, for some reason, he exclaims "Look! It's the B-19!" Too bad it wasn't preserved.
