Some "Massacre", TPM

This was their headline:
Nasim Aghdam’s Massacre Is Part of the Crisis of Big Tech
Maybe I'm just being picky about the use of the word, but I don't know how a writer can seriously use the word "massacre" without a bunch of people being killed. Boston Massacre. Deerfield Massacre. Malmedy. My Lai. Kent State. York.

It's linguistic laziness, pure and simple.

  2. “When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’

’The question is,’ said Alice, ‘whether you can make words mean so many different things.’

’The question is,’ said Humpty Dumpty, ‘which is to be master — that’s all.”

  3. I predict that any time anyone uses a gun for anything, the media will call it a massacre even if no one is killed.

Because guns are bad. And gun-owners are evil.

  4. Still counts as a firearm death.

  6. Wasn't arguing; I was thinking about the total firearms deaths which are used to demonstrate gun crimes but don't mention how many are suicides.

  7. That is my hot spot.

The damn gun didn't walk into the store and say give me your stuff..
It was the perp, critter, the guy holding the gun, knife, bat...

It counts as a death where a firearm was employed as if it were different if a machete or bat were used. Again the subtle difference in wording, its not a lie only its not the truth. Create a meme to make a machine the fault.

In the end its a murder or murders followed by a suicide. When you take the gun out of it you see the actual problem its not how, but why it happened at all.

But calling it a massacre meets the very old news meme, if it bleeds it leads.
The other meme is headlines sell papers. Somewhere down page three under the fold is the who, what, where and why, maybe. Though now those are the annoying details.

But in those case the perp will be Orwelled. What was written and all behind it
will be disappeared. It wasn't massacre enough to warrant a full three days or more.

    Eck!
