If You Want to Buy a Drone

Don't buy one from DJI, makers of the Phantom series. They've adopted "geofencing", so anywhere that DJI thinks you shouldn't be flying your drone, it simply won't fly.

  1. Unfortunately, this was a requirement from the FAA to get the little drones (I have one) to be legal to fly commercially. It sucks, but given the crap I've seen people do with them (try to fly one over the fence at El Monte airport, for example), I'm not surprised. This falls under the heading of, "This is why we can't have nice things", I'm afraid.

  2. And of course, a dump of the geofence lookup tables tells ISIS and other enemies where all the worthwhile targets are :-(
