Rep. John Fleming has deleted his Facebook post linking to an article in The Onion about a fictional Planned Parenthood “Abortionplex.”"Literally Unbelievable" blog broke the story. This was the Onion article that Fleming fell for. According to the Wikipedia article on Fleming, he is a physician and a businessman.
In a Facebook status on Friday, the Louisiana Republican alerted his followers to The Onion’s May 18, 2011 article, “Planned Parenthood Opens $8 Billion Abortionplex” and wrote “More on Planned Parenthood, abortion by the wholesale.” Fleming’s spokesman Doug Sachtleben confirmed to POLITICO the post has since been removed from the congressman’s Facebook page and said the office had no further comment.The
Rumor has it, though, that in medical circles, Fleming isn't exactly known for being the sharpest scalpel on the tray. Which only makes sense.
I wanted to send him a congratulatory email, but couldn't find an address (I refuse to use the online contact forms). I wanted to remind him that Dr. is the honorific applied to graduates of medical school at each end of the bell curve, and it is very clear which end of it he claims.

And they never have to pass a licensing exam to use the honorific. Though I don't believe that Michael Chriegton ever used the term.

ReplyDeleteWell, he did serve as a family doctor for many years in the Navy. So you can't say that he's not a doctor, even if he's not currently practicing.
ReplyDeleteBTW, he's got good hair. Makes me wonder if he and Governor Perry occasionally meet in some closet to, uhm, compare hair (amongst other things)? Just sayin ;).
Note that this is the same dolt who claimed last year that he can't feed his wife and kids on less than $200,000 per year. IF you read his actual statements they're not quite that inflammatory -- he owns 30+ restaurants, and his income has to go to support those restaurants too in terms of updating their equipment, expanding his restaurant chain, and so forth -- but he's definitely got a case of foot-in-mouth disease.
Plus him investing in opening new restaurants doesn't create jobs. It just shifts jobs away from existing restaurants, assuming there is a fixed pool of money for people to use to eat out with. I.e., if people in Minden have $10M to eat out with, they'll spend it at someone *else's* restaurant rather than *his* new restaurant branch if his new restaurant branch never opens because he got taxed higher. The total number of jobs created by that $10M will be the same, just fewer of them will be working for him. Some "job creator"... all he is, is a job *shifter*, shifting jobs from other restaurants to his.
