Ken Mehlman, President Bush's campaign manager in 2004 and a former chairman of the Republican National Committee, has told family and associates that he is gay.Of course he comes out after the party of the Confederacy is out of power (and he's safely in the private sector and working in the second-most gay friendly city in the nation). When Melman was working for Chimpy and when he was head of the RNC, if he had said "hey, folks, I'm gay," they would have run him out of DC faster than Bob Irsay yanked the Colts out of Baltimore.

COMMENT MODERATION IS IN EFFECT UFN. This means that if you are an insulting dick, nobody will ever see it.
So it took him 43 years to be comfortable with being gay. And how many years to make amends for all the pain and misery he enabled?
ReplyDelete"He often wondered why gay voters never formed common cause with Republican opponents of Islamic jihad..."
ReplyDeleteHow very typical of the Republican mindset, to exaggerate the importance of a potential threat while being oblivious to immediate ones.
The funny thing is that even when he was the Shrubbery's campaign manager, my gaydar was going off big-time every time I saw Mehlman. It was pretty clear to me -- and probably to pretty much everybody other than Mehlman's closet door -- that ole' Kenny boy was gayer than the gay mayor of Gaytown. Only good thing to say is that, unlike typical tighty righty closet cases, Mehlman never engaged in the kind of gay bashing that closet cases often do in order to head off questions about their own sexuality. But then, of course, as campaign manager and RNC head he had people for that...
