Connie!!
Constellations were elegant airplanes. It is a good thing that there are people who have found a way to keep a couple flying.

COMMENT MODERATION IS IN EFFECT UFN. This means that if you are an insulting dick, nobody will ever see it.
Lovely!
ReplyDeleteAs a kid in NJ I watched Connies and others fly to Newark and NYC. Back then I thought it was great when they were phased out for jets. Nowadays I prefer them turning to burning.
ReplyDeleteDear Miss Fit:
ReplyDeleteDennis Wolter (of Air-Mod note) says that the Connie is the most beautiful artifact ever created by the hand and mind of man.
I do believe I agree with him.
(Thanks for the pretty pictures.)

Frank
TWA used to fly Constellations into what was my hometown airport back in the early '60s. Haven't seen one in a long time. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYes OH yes the Connie and its R3350 18 cylinder radial engine
ReplyDeleteWoo Hoo
The sound of round engines in the morning, good for the soul.
ReplyDeleteBoth the 3350 corncob engines and the
Connie were both the peak of the art
and that was the result. Beauty!
If I had to bunch a few piston birds up and call it art I'd put the DC3 and the Beech staggerwing next to it.
Eck!
