Whistling Past the Graveyard

PESHAWAR, Pakistan - Militants blasted their way into two transport terminals in Pakistan on Sunday and torched more than 160 vehicles destined for U.S.-led troops in Afghanistan, in the biggest assault yet on a vital military supply line, officials said. The U.S. military said its losses in the raid near the northwestern city of Peshawar would have only a "minimal" impact on its operations against resurgent Taliban-led militants in Afghanistan.
Right. A large majority of the supplies into Afghanistan come through Pakistan, for reasons obvious to anyone who cares to look at a map. Karachi is the closest seaport to Afghanistan. The next neighbor to Afghanistan which has a relatively convenient seaport is Iran, so forget that idea. Any other feasible route is going to require very long overland routes by train or truck through either China or Russia. (Yeah. Let's ship containers of sensitive military equipment through Russia or China. That's a terrific idea.)

Going after the supply train is a time-honored tactic.
