Hungarian voters on Sunday ousted long-serving Prime Minister Viktor Orbán after 16 years in power, rejecting the authoritarian policies and global far-right movement that he embodied in favor of a pro-European challenger in a bombshell election result with global repercussions.
Election victor Péter Magyar, a former Orbán loyalist who campaigned against corruption and on everyday issues like health care and public transport, has pledged to rebuild Hungary’s relationships with the European Union and NATO — ties that frayed under Orbán. European leaders quickly congratulated Magyar.
Orban's fascist policies have turned Hungary into one of the poorest countries in Europe. His more and more slavish devotion to Russia likely didn't sit well in a country where the memories of Russian oppression and the crushing of the 1956 Revolution are still bright.

Orban did try to cast doubt about the legitimacy of the election, but the margin of victory was just too much for his lies.
The cleanup from sixteen years of Orban's rule should be interesting.
MAGA has tried to make Orban a model of how to take over a country and bend it to the extreme right. Now we have him as a model of how not to let that happen.

Wowsers....and Orban was a THE major stumbling block in any and all EU efforts to succor Ukraine and include it in NATO. Now if we can just educate America about Trump so that our people chant those words too.
