The glass panels of the Lynching Victims Monolith are simple, etched with the names of more than 600 victims of documented racial killings in Mississippi, along with the attackers’ motives.

The approach to creating a state history museum was the same — tell the full story, beginning with how Native Americans were removed from the land.
“We said at the beginning we weren’t going to hide anything,” [former governor Haley] Barbour said in an interview, noting that he grew up in an era of segregation. “We weren’t gonna try to justify what was done. That’s what the people wanted — to say, ‘Look, we’re not proud of this, but we’re not going to deny it.’”
Demented Donnie and PeeWee German keep whitewashing the history of this country. There's not enough paint in the world to cover up slavery and Jim Crow, but that doesn't stop the "lost cause" lunatics and white supremacists from trying.
Don't let them.

Back 7 years ago, a liberal Israeli woman made a Documentary video of interview of settlers...and not even those of the religiously extreme sort, more those attracted by the economic opportunities.

I grew up in the not Deep South, and when I watched it and listened to these settlers talk, I couldn't help but think of 1950's Southerners explaining how blacks weren't as smart as white folk, that they needed to be told what to do and how to live, that whites were just taking what was theirs by right, that blacks weren't to be trusted. And how being racist blights your life.

That's what the Germans do about their Nazi heritage (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dokumentationszentrum_Obersalzberg).
Having had the (ahem) opportunity to live and work in 1960's middle America and the deep South, the blatant overt racism with old dug in roots was stunning to a naive west coast boy. I knew the history, but not the in your face close up experience. The blight, as SD notes, was like a cancer and the cure still hasn't been found. In fact, it's been spreading its' evil tendrils through every aspect of our society and democracy.
But those of us clear eyed, sane, and not in denial, still have the possibility to course correct all the damage that's been done. It's going to be hardest, most difficult work we've ever done. There are strong leaders opposed to Trump's Regime for us to elect in every state and district.
So let's roll up our sleeves and meet the problems head on. Among others, Minnesotans showed us how. Do not flinch, do not give up, help folks register, then GOTV! There may be no coming back if we don't.
The Hungarians showed us, as well. The fascists (Orban, Putin, Trump) like to tell us that their way is inevitable.
It isn't. Vote, get other people to vote. Donate to GOTV organizations and the candidates you like.
Do the work. Save our country.
