I've not seen a lot of them, but when one passes overhead, you'll know it. It sounds different because the props are cutting up the exhaust flow.

Definitely odd sounding! There is one sitting in the back corner of a hangar in Ft. Worth. I don't think it's flown in 5-6 years.
THey even sound weird at startup and ground Idle. Like you say, the props chopping the exhaust.
I got to sit in one at Tulsa when I had my plane there for service. The cockpit is TINY but very well equipped and very comfortable.
If I only had 6 million to spare.
